A construction loan is a short term loan that pays for the costs of building a new house from start to finish. The lender releases funds in stages called draws as builders complete different milestones of the home. Borrowers usually pay only interest payments during the building phase instead of full monthly payments. Once construction finishes, the borrower pays off the balance or converts it into a permanent mortgage loan.
